2006 Simms 280 Pro Street Custom Chopper - Dane Simms

Dane Simms was born with motorcycles in his blood-more precisely, he has them deeply embedded in his DNA. Long before he was born, his father, the well-known Ron Simms, was totally immersed in custom V-Twin motorcycles as well as the motorcycle business as a whole.

Growing up in the S.F. Bay Area of California, the now 26-year-old Dane and his 33-year-old brother Hunter have been around motorcycles as far back as they can remember. The year was 1973 when Ron took his backyard bike-building skills and moved into what would become the long-time home of what was known for about 20 years as Bay Area Custom Cycles. There wasn't a summer vacation that went by as Dane grew up that he didn't find himself at the shop helping out, doing and learning whatever he could. Being the boss's kid wasn't an easy thing.

Off-Highway Fuel Tax Study Released

California State Parks released the State Fuel Tax Study and announced that further evaluation will be necessary because of the report's statistically questionable results. Despite the best efforts of researchers, with a nearly 17 point margin of error, the study contradicts the actual growth and funding needs of off-highway vehicle trends in California. While OHV recreation has grown by more than 112 percent since 2001, the survey suggests that funding should be cut by more than 50 percent. Daphne Greene, Deputy Director of the State Parks' Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division said, "The data suggests we cut the program funding by more than half at a time when off-highway vehicle recreation is growing significantly. To do such a thing would be irresponsible and does not make sense to us.
